JPG to WebP: Check the Result Before Using It
Convert one original image, compare the actual size, and inspect the downloaded output. WebP is not guaranteed to be smaller or suitable for every upload.
Check the destination format
Read the upload or publishing requirements. If the destination accepts only JPG, use JPG output rather than WebP. Keep the original image for later editing.
Convert one image and compare
In the image compressor, choose a JPG and select WebP output. Set quality, then select Process image.
Compare the original and result sizes. The on-page preview shows the original, so download the WebP and open it to inspect the processed image.
Look beyond the size number
Check text, fine texture, and important colors. Lower quality can discard detail. If the result is larger or unsuitable, choose a different quality or a format the destination accepts and process again.
Do not expect a fixed saving percentage. Current processing is one image at a time.
Transparency does not remove a background
WebP can preserve transparency that already exists in an appropriate source image. A white background in a JPG is picture content; format conversion does not remove it.
Converting a lossy output back to JPG does not recover discarded detail. Keep the original as your editing source.
